Declared President Barack Obama that he will make it accelerate transactions travelers upon arrival at American airports a priority for his administration in order to encourage foreign tourists to visit the United States and contribute to the recovery of the economy.
Obama said during a visit to the Hall of Fame baseball in Cooperstown eastern New York State, two years after the promise made by making the United States the first tourist destination in the world, he sought to raise the number of tourists coming to the country to 100 million tourists annually.
Before heading to Cooperstown Obama met at the White House, heads of a number of major American companies dependent on tourism, such as hotels and others.
Obama said he instructed the Ministers of Trade Penny Pritzker and J. Johnson of Homeland Security "to work with airports, airlines, hotel groups and states and municipalities in order to improve the experience faced by travelers" to the United States.
The President drew particular importance to "reduce the waiting time for people who enter American territory, but without affecting absolute security."
And often forced travelers to the United States to wait in queues at airports for long periods of time in excess of time to complete the transaction passports and inspection procedures have been tightened a lot after the Sept. 11 attacks.
